We aren’t always quick to shout “pick me!”. But like the man whom Jesus cast out a legion of demons from, Jesus is calling us into our communities to tell of what He’s done. Who will go to Clayton? Who will go to Brighton? Pick me!

Luke 8:19-21 can seem like a very strange passage. But Jesus reveals two things to those that may hear. Firstly, He is focused on His Father’s mission and will not be distracted. Secondly, Jesus invites us to become His family.

John the Baptist had a ministry of preparing the way for Jesus. We have people in our lives whom God has used to speak into our lives, to refine us and purify us. Let us receive what God has for us and allow Him to refine us to be more and more like Jesus.

As the Centurion saw who Jesus really was, he was able to respond with faith, even faith that Jesus marvelled at. We need to set our eyes on Jesus, so we can see who He really is, and have faith in Him.

Often we find it easy to see other people’s sin whilst remaining oblivious to our own. Jesus recognises this and calls us to remove the “logs” from our own eyes, for only when we have dealt with our own issues can we see properly to help remove the “specks” from others.
