The book of James in the New Testament has sometimes been called the book of proverbs for the early church. One of the key themes running through James’ writing is the getting of wisdom. He starts his letter with the statement “..if anyone lacks wisdom…” and he goes on in his letter to describe the “meekness of wisdom”, “earthly wisdom” and the “wisdom that comes down from above”. This is a good place to start a new series on the subject of wisdom. In these days of trouble and uncertainty on earth Daniel tells us that “the wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens”.
