Just as the sick need a doctor, so sinners need a Saviour. Jesus came for the unrighteous, not for the ‘righteous’. We need to recognise that without Christ we are all unrighteous, and in need of His salvation.

The anointed Son of God came to save and deliver from the dominion of Satan. Jesus quotes Isaiah 61 calling his hearers to believe that he is the anointed Messiah for their salvation and deliverance. Jesus is the same today and calls us to believe that he has come to set the captives free.

One of the devil’s main strategies to deceive humanity is to convince people he doesn’t exist. Jesus is led by the Holy Spirit into confrontation with the devil, to expose him and his schemes.

As we move into a new year God wants us to know his promises that contain power to equip us in every way to find joy in His service. In Psalm 103 David reminds us that God “satisfies your desire with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s”.
